Edna shares her humanitarian vision with TED
If an elderly woman can build a hospital, everyone has the potential to move humanitarian mountains if they put their mind to it, says Edna Adan Ismail.
“We’ll be ten years old in March and it’s given life to an entire country. Every midwife in Somaliland has had to do a refresher course with us. We’ve developed a nursing training curriculum which is used nationally and a midwife training programme which has been replicated and used in neighbouring Somalia. It’s become a curiosity; people want to come and see what an old woman has done.”

Having worked with Dr.Edna Adan Ismail, it comes to me as no surprise that she could accomplish so much in so little time. I have never come across a person with so much strength and stupendous stamina, so much so that at the age of 20 i couldn’t be a match for her physical capability. Armed with a great vision, and an unyielding determination, Dr. Edna has the potential of realizing even more, and making Somaliland one of the safest places for a mother to deliver. May you live for a thousand years Edna, so that you continue making the lives of many vulnerable people always the better.
I took all my clinical expreince in Edna for 3 yrs this gives me the skills i work , it is really lifetime contribution of my career, i am very proud who i am because of her .
