Health Profile of the People of Somaliland

Maternal and infant health care

The health of the people of Somaliland is among the worst in Africa.

Even before the civil war and the separation of the two Somali states, Somalia had one of the highest Maternal and Child Mortality rates in the world (Ref. UNICEF, The Progress of Nations, 1997, 1600 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births).

Although recent national and valid data is not available, it is frightening to think of what the Maternal and Child Mortality rates have become after the destruction of this country.
